Finding an affordable family home - Telegraph

Finding an affordable family home - Telegraph

The Tomlinson family loved living in London but they had become very cramped. Ian and Amanda found their three-storey town house in Docklands was bursting at the seams now that their eldest daughter Lucy was seven, Harry five and Luke two. Like so many other families, they wanted more space and a good school nearby, and they couldn’t find it at an affordable price where they were.

“We were really crammed in,” says Ian. “The problem was finding a big enough property that we could afford.” Previously they wouldn’t have dreamed of Bedford, but Amanda’s family lived in Hertfordshire and his in the Midlands, so it was sort of half way. Ian had a brief look and discovered he could buy a six-bedroom semi-detached villa at £495,000. It was part of the restoration of a set of early 20th-century houses called Lansdowne Villas by Storey Homes. Bedford has good schools and fast rail connection to the capital.
