THE local housing market has weathered the storm as the country as a whole is experiencing a slump, according to industry insiders.

The main problem faced by estate agents in the region is a lack of confidence, with fewer sellers and buyers.

Nationally, houses prices have stagnated over recent months and remain lower than the same time last year – put at 4.2 per cent by the Halifax.

However, agents agree that East Herts and West Essex have fared better than further afield in England.

Nigel Adams, of internet-based Hertfordshire agents bigblackhen, believes the area has been protected by its proximity to the buoyant London market.
