Building costs in Britain are now more than 20 per cent below their peak price in mid-2008 - but it still remains the 12th most expensive place for construction in the world.

Switzerland is the most expensive country in the world to construct new properties, according to new research.
The report released by build asset consultancy EC Harris found that building costs in Switzerland are 25 per cent higher than anywhere else in the world.

Its report benchmarks the construction costs of countries around the world, using UK prices as a baseline, and found that Europe continues to be the most expensive continent in which to build, providing eight of the top ten entrants in the table.
