The average price of a home tumbled more than £2,000 in the past month bringing an end to a recent run of monthly rises, although there are signs that the market could regain speed in the months ahead, the Halifax reported today.
The latest Halifax House Price Index showed the average house price 1.2 per cent lower between July and August at £161,743.
That compares to £163,981 in July, a monthly fall of £2,238. Halifax said that the less volatile three-month measure showed prices 1 per cent higher in the three month to August than the three months to July.
