What is the National Planning Policy Framework?

It is the Coalition government's attempt to simplify the planning regulations. Currently planning rules are contained within 1,000 pages of policy and 6,000 pages of extra notes. The draft NPPF replaces them with just 52 pages that offer guidance to local authorities on how to decide whether and where to build new houses, shops, amenities, and transport infrastructure.
