Is my wife a first-time buyer if I put up the money? | Money | guardian.co.uk

Q We are being given conflicting information on stamp duty. I have just sold my house and wish to buy another in my wife's name. She will be a first-time buyer. Would she be exempt from stamp duty, as the house in question costs less than £250,000? However, our finances – for example our bank accounts – are in our joint names, so will this affect her first-time buyer status?
